International academic conference “Contemporary Issues in Tort Law in the BRICS Countries”

The conference is intended to provide a forum for scholarly discussion of recent developments in tort law across the BRICS jurisdictions, with particular emphasis on doctrinal analysis and comparative perspectives. In light of the increasing economic and legal interconnectedness of these jurisdictions, the examination of their respective approaches to liability raises important questions concerning both divergence and potential convergence of legal solutions.

The Faculty of Law of the National Research University Higher School of Economics invites you to participate in the international academic conference “Contemporary Issues in Tort Law in the BRICS Countries”, to be held on 16 October 2026 in a hybrid format (in person and online), commencing at 12:00 (Moscow time).

The conference will address, inter alia, the following topics:

  • the limits of tort liability and their theoretical foundations;
  • liability for pure economic loss;
  • the development of product liability regimes;
  • causation in complex and multi-factor cases;
  • liability for omissions;
  • environmental and climate-related harm;
  • comparative perspectives on contemporary tort law.

Participation is open to scholars, researchers, and legal practitioners.

Key dates:

  • submission of applications for participation as a speaker – until 1 September 2026 (inclusive);
  • submission of applications for participation without a presentation – until 10 October 2026 (inclusive);
  • conference date – 16 October 2026.

Applications should be submitted via the online registration form.

Acceptance of proposals is subject to review by the organizing committee, taking into account the relevance of the topic and its scholarly merit. The final programme of the conference will be determined upon completion of the review process.
