BRICS Law School Consortium – Youth

1.1. Youth working groups

The BRICS Youth Working Groups analyse various cross-border legal issues with the aim of unifying legal systems on the most topical issues on the BRICS agenda, such as, for example, the creation of a single currency or model laws in the area of cross-border insolvency, with a perspective of defending the projects (potentially on a competitive basis) and transferring the best solutions further to expert and academic working groups.

Within the framework of these global themes, the BRICS Youth Working Groups will address specific issues, initially assigned to them by the expert and academic groups.

1.2. Open Wednesday Initiative (best practices & knowledge sharing)

This initiative is aimed at disseminating information about the BRICS countries' best practices in the use of legal tools (possible examples from Russia: digital solutions of the Tax Service in the field of debt collection, e-trade tools of Sberbank, the Digital Ruble of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, any successful digital and analytical public legal instruments related to trade and/or development of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Economic Development, leading banks and/or state-owned companies).

The meetings are planned to be held in a roundtable format every 2 months on Wednesdays.

1.3. Competitions

1.3.1. Legal All-around

Teams formed based on nationality submit legal cases with the necessary acts attached for their solution. Then, teams solve the cases sequentially. The team that proposed the case acts as a judge and evaluates the work of other teams. Thus, each team will serve as a judge once. Teams will accumulate points over several rounds, and the team with the highest score will be declared the winner.

1.3.2. International Legal Debates

Law students form teams. The debates are held in the format of classical academic disputes, where participants are invited to discuss a pre-selected topic. Each team participates both as defenders of the position and as opponents. Speeches are evaluated by experienced experts from academic and professional environments.

1.3.3. Legal Startup Festival

Participants choose problems in BRICS countries that they want to solve with their startup. Startups are evaluated by experts.

1.3.4. Legal Hackathon

The event is aimed at developing innovative legal solutions using modern technologies. It involves programmers, designers, and other specialists who seek to find new ways to improve the legal system. The main goal of the hackathon is to create prototypes of products or services that can simplify and speed up processes in the legal sphere, whether it be automating routine tasks, improving access to justice, or protecting human rights. One or more BRICS countries can act as a customer for the prototype product or service. Thus, the client country can propose a problem that exists in its legal sphere, while participants will offer their solutions to this problem.

2.1. Public-talks, panel discussions, round tables and workshops

Students conduct lectures and seminars for other students on the legal issues of their countries.

2.3. Cooperative research and coauthoring articles

2.4. Legal databases (in prospect)

Creating and maintaining databases or indexes of:

− Scientific publications;

− Legal acts;

− Young scholars.

3.1. Quests

Investigations and court proceedings in an online format.

3.2. Forum

Creating a forum on social media where problems related to news, current issues arising in reality will be discussed.

3.3. Film Club

Watching films related to the legal culture of countries and legal awareness, which will show, for example, a certain deformation of legal consciousness or the structure of justice, and accordingly, their discussion using an assessment from the perspective of various legislations, that is, how a particular problem is resolved or not resolved according to the legal systems of different countries.
