International Summer School on Arbitration in Geneva

Dmitrii Shchetinin, research-assistant of the Laboratory, participated in an international summer school, organised by ELSA (European Law Students Association), from 14 to 21 July. The school was devoted to arbitration and took place in Geneva, one of the most popular seats of arbitration.

Lawyers from leading law firms, such as Akin Gump, CMS, LALIVE, Schellenberg Wittmer, Brown&Page, gave lectures to the students. Lectures were about different types of arbitration (commercial, investment, construction and etc.), arbitral clauses, enforcement and setting aside of arbitral awards.

Participants visited the Swiss Arbitration Association to get knowledge of Swiss Rules. Also they were in the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). WIPO’s staff talked about arbitration in IP dispute resolution and WIPO Rules.

Dmitrii Shchetinin: “I was glad to take part in the summer school of ELSA. I obtained a huge amount of new information, for instance, previously I had no idea what construction arbitration is. Moreover, the working language of the school was English, so I could improve speaking and refresh legal vocabulary. All colleagues were from different countries and I had a chance to find out something unknown for me. I am happy that I was selected by an organising committee and could listen to lectures of experienced lawyers from international firms”.
