Results of the open lecture on “The importance of drafting comprehensive multi-step dispute resolution clauses in international commercial arbitration”
On December 16, 2024, the Master's Program “Law of International Trade and Dispute Resolution” and the Laboratory of International Justice of the HSE welcomed Roberto Pirozzi, practitioner and Professor of International Commercial Law and Negotiation at LUMSA University in Rome. With the support of law firm Verba Legal, Roberto gave a lecture on “The importance of drafting comprehensive multi-step dispute resolution clauses in international commercial arbitration.”
Roberto has extensive experience as an arbitration lawyer, arbitrator, mediator and contract negotiator in a variety of jurisdictions, including Europe, the USA and the Middle East. His areas of expertise include commercial dispute resolution, construction and infrastructure disputes, and M&A-related disputes. Roberto is the founder and managing partner of Pirozzi Lex, a firm focusing on antitrust, commercial litigation, contract drafting, alternative dispute resolution, and international arbitration.
During the expert's presentation such important aspects as drafting of multi-step dispute resolution clauses, the importance and specifics of negotiation and mediation, features of institutional and ad hoc arbitration, etc. were touched upon.
The lecture aroused great interest from students, including master's and PhD students, of the HSE and other universities, as well as practicing lawyers. Roberto shared with the audience valuable experience from his practice. A lively discussion focused on examples of existing clauses and their weaknesses and strengths, differences in clauses drafted in different jurisdictions, and other relevant issues.
