The School of Private Law was established within the HSE Faculty of Law in 2020 through the reorganization of the former Department of Private Law Disciplines.
The School brings together distinguished legal scholars, including professors and associate professors holding doctoral and candidate degrees in law, many of whom have extensive practical experience in Russia's highest courts and arbitral tribunals. The faculty possesses a broad range of professional expertise and includes leading academics and practitioners actively involved in the development of legislation in the fields of private law and civil procedure. Each year, the School's faculty members are awarded the title of "Best Lecturer" based on student voting.
Our mission is to provide education in private law at the standards of the world's leading universities while taking into account the distinctive educational profiles of our degree programmes.
The School is engaged in teaching, research, and public outreach, addressing contemporary developments in civil legislation, private law, and civil procedure.
The School contributes to the delivery of HSE's legal education programmes at the Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels. Bachelor's programmes include Law, Law: Digital Lawyer, and Law: Business Regulation. Master's programmes include Contemporary Private Law, and Lawyer in Business. The School also participates in the HSE Doctoral School of Law.
The School's academic staff deliver educational programmes grounded in a distinctive tradition of legal scholarship that combines rigorous theoretical research with the analysis of legal practice. Faculty members successfully integrate teaching with research and maintain close cooperation with public authorities, international organizations, and the business community. This approach enables the School not only to provide students with a strong foundation in legal education but also to actively engage them in academic research, project-based learning, and practical legal training.
