On October 16, 2026, the Department of Private Law at the HSE University Faculty of Law hosted the international academic conference “Contemporary Issues in Tort Law in the BRICS Countries.”The event brought together Russian and international researchers, faculty members, and early-career scholars working in the fields of civil liability, comparative private law, and the legal regulation of emerging technologies.The conference attracted considerable interest from the academic community: approximately 70 applications were submitted, and the programme was drawn up following their review. The event’s primary aim was to provide a forum for exchanging research ideas, discussing current trends in the development of tort law, and comparing approaches adopted across the legal systems of the BRICS countries.The conference was moderated by Semyon K. Stepanov, Candidate of Legal Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Private Law, HSE University Faculty of Law.

The topic of the meeting was “The Participation of Public Prosecutors in Civil and Commercial Court Proceedings.” The guest speaker was Ekaterina Yuryevna Sokolova, a prosecutor in the Department for Ensuring Prosecutors’ Participation in Civil and Commercial Proceedings at the Moscow Region Prosecutor’s Office.

On 30 September, a research seminar titled “The Accessory Nature of Security Rights: Striking a Balance Between International and Domestic Law” was held. The event was organized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and MGIMO University.Held online, the seminar brought together scholars from Russia and abroad, legal practitioners, and UNCITRAL representatives. The working languages were Russian and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided. The seminar attracted more than 190 participants. Mikhail A. Volchansky and Andrey V. Egorov, faculty members of the School of Private Law, took part in the event.

On September 29, 2026, Daniil Dmitrievich Dzhumagulov successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Will and Declaration of Intent in Contracts Concluded over the Internet,” submitted for the degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences.The dissertation was supervised by A. A. Ivanov, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor at the Department of Private Law and Academic Supervisor of the HSE Faculty of Law.

On September 25, 2026, Vasil E. Shaikhraziev successfully defended his dissertation entitled “The Relationship Between the Claims of a Pledgee and Unsecured Creditors in the Pledgor’s Bankruptcy Proceedings,” submitted for the degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences. The dissertation was supervised by K.A. Novikov, Candidate of Legal Sciences.

The speaker was Aram Grigoryan, attorney and partner at the law firm Nektorov, Saveliev & Partners (NSP).

During his lectures, Alexander Kuznetsov discussed contemporary corporate law, including the decline and revival of the civil law tradition as illustrated by commercial companies.

The meeting focused on “The Burden of Generosity: Why Free Masterpieces Cost Museums Dearly.” The event was organized by the Department of Private Law at the HSE University Faculty of Law, represented by Valentina Sinelnikova, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor at the Department of Private Law, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Councils of the Intellectual Property Court and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

The results of the 11th RAA Competition, hosted at the offices of Melling, Voitishkin & Partners and ALRUD, have been announced!HSE University’s Team No. 39 took first place in the Best Team category. The team members were Alisa Sorokina, Varvara Ivanova, Elizaveta Lapshina, Maria Ushaeva, and Maria Perova. The team was coached by Alexey Akuzhinov and Ilya Evseev.Many other HSE University participants and teams also received recognition in both team and individual categories.

From July 27 to August 1, the Federal University of Minas Gerais hosted the BRICS Legal Studies Summer School in Belo Horizonte (Brazil). The event brought together professors, postgraduate students, and students from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the UAE, and other countries. The 2026 program focused on in-depth study of the founding BRICS states legal systems: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
