Course Syllabus

Abstract

The growth of interdisciplinary research is becoming a general trend in university education. This course is based on the use of knowledge and methods of several academic disciplines, including law, psychology, sociology, history, education and healthcare, economics and anthropology. This approach contributes to the development of critical thinking of the student in matters related to children's problems. During the course, students will receive information about the evolution of this category of human rights, as well as the evolution of related problems. The methods and means by which society should respond to children's problems will be studied and critically understood. Special attention will be paid to successful international strategies and programs aimed at protecting the rights of children and international organizations working in this area. This open online course provides an overview of the most important features of children's rights. The central part of the course will consist of the presentation of international and regional standards on children's rights and consideration of the role of international and regional judicial and quasi-judicial organizations related to this problem.

Learning Objectives

• Know the main interdisciplinary approaches used in the field of protection of children's rights
• Know the key international issues in the field of protecting children's rights
• Study the most successful international practices and cases for the protection of children's rights

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Have skills to use methods of an interdisciplinary approach in the field of the protection of children's rights
• Have skills in applying best international practices in matters related to children's rights
• Have basic knowledge of legal practice on the example of specific court decisions related to children's rights

Course Contents

• Introduction to the course
  Basic interdisciplinary methods in the social sciences
• Fundamental rights
  Fundamental rights and freedoms of children, the evolution of ideas about them and the challenges that this concept faces
• jurisprudence practice
  International judicial practice and the activities of international organizations as a way to protect the rights and freedoms of children

• Current control: test during the course
• Intermediate control: interview with the teacher

• Interim assessment (2 module)
