Course Syllabus

Abstract

Academic discipline - Research Seminar "International Judicial Jurisdictions (Courts and Tribunals)" is dedicated to deep study of the activities of universal and specialized international justice bodies in the form of international courts and international tribunals, their role in the international legal order, and as well as their impact on national legal systems. Particular attention is paid to the role of international courts as a means of resolving interstate disputes, as well as a tool for exercising the right to judicial protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens. Students who have studied the discipline will learn: the history of the ideas of international justice and quasi-judicial bodies of the past; the contribution of international justice to the development of human rights, the implementation of the principles and norms of international humanitarian law; modern problems of the theory and practice of international justice and prospects for the development of the latter. Based on the results of mastering the discipline, students will be able to analyze the activities of the International Court of Justice, international criminal justice bodies, as well as the courts of regional economic and political integration agreements; carry out content analysis of acts of international courts both in English and in Russian; use the case law of the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights as courts whose compulsory jurisdiction is recognized by the Russian Federation in their daily practice

  • know the role of international courts as a means of resolving interstate disputes, as well as an instrument for exercising the right to judicial protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens
  • own: • the conceptual apparatus used in the study of international justice • techniques and methods of research work, as well as methods of implementing the obtained research results in the practical activities of government agencies, commercial organizations, international institutions; • methods of application of acquired legal knowledge in the course of lawmaking and law enforcement activities; • methods of expert evaluation of normative legal acts of national and international nature
