The School of International Law keeps pace with significant international events and legal adjudication in order to provide hands-on education that prepares future lawyers and legal scholars for the demands of the current legal landscape. During the conference, current international legal problems that are taking place during the formation of a multipolar, just world were discussed. In particular, issues of the theory of international law, general international law in the context of the formation of a polycentric world order, international legal responsibility in the emerging world order, the study and use of natural resources of celestial bodies, clarification of the concept of “aggression” and the legal regime for restrictions on the use of various types of weapons in modern conditions, the latest trends in the legal regulation of world integration processes, compensation for damage caused during an armed conflict, the transformation of the international economic legal order in the conditions of the formation of a new world order, the activities of the International Court of Justice in the 20s of the 21st century and many other issues.
The key presentations were made by: Anatoly Yakovlevich Kapustin - President of the Russian Association of International Law, Head of the Department of International Law at the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation; Musikhin Maxim Vyacheslavovich – Director of the Legal Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dronov Alexey Alexandrovich – Chairman of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Union; Aleksandrov Stanislav Vitalievich - Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Russian Lawyers Association, State Secretary - Vice President of the Synergy Corporation; Lyudmila Vyacheslavovna Nosova – State Secretary, Deputy Chairman of the International Union of Lawyers.
Active participation in the conference was taken by the Head of the School of International Law Vera Nikolaevna Rusinova, who made a report titled “International law in the face of modern crises: erosion or development?” and moderated the round table “Compensation for damage caused during an armed conflict: problems and trends”; Professor of the School of International Law Romashev Yuri Sergeevich, who made a report “On the theory and practice of application of international law” and became the moderator of the section “Trends in the development of the theory of international law”, as well as Associate Professor of the department Vladislav Valerievich Starzhenetsky, who made a report on “Sovereign immunities of states and compensation for damage". In addition, an active part in this conference was taken by a number of PhD students of the department, including Victoria Polshakova, Adam Nalgiev, Artem Evseev, and Daria Zavershinskaya, as well as a student of the Bachelor’s program Abrashin Roman.
At the conference, a special session was held: “The case “Ukraine versus the Russian Federation” in the ICJ: process, results, consequences”, where the experts - participants in the proceedings “On the Application of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (Ukraine versus the Russian Federation)” shared their impressions of its progress, spoke about the preparation of the position of the Russian side in its development, assessed the results of the proceedings, reflected on their impact on the development of international legal practice and theory.
