The first issue of the HSE University Journal of International Law for the year 2024 is published

“HSE University Journal of International Law” is a periodical online journal whose mission is to accumulate the results of fundamental and applied research on current issues of international law.

The first issue of the HSE University Journal of International Law for the year 2024 is published

In the first issue of the journal for 2024, we are pleased to offer readers materials in two new sections: in the “History” section, the first (of two) article on the formation and development of the ideas of André Mandelstam and his legal heritage is published; in the “Case Study” section there is a commentary on combatant immunity for members of the Nagorno-Karabakh army. In the journal’s traditional “Topical Issues” section, readers are offered materials devoted to systematic interpretation of the norms of economic and environmental treaties, as well as the international legal status of islands and the procedures for maritime boundary delimitation of islands. A new look at the principle of equality in its international legal dimension is proposed in the “Theoretical Inquiries” section. The issue also contains a commentary on the decision of the International Court of Justice in the case on the application of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Ukraine v. Russian Federation).

Authors and articles of the issue:

  • Ksenia Shestakova, Polina Yataeva, Varvara Avdeeva and Vyacheslav Suponin. The Emerging International Legal Protection of Human Rights in the Interwar Period: the Life and Ideas of André Mandelstam. Part 1 (in Russian)
