Online-conference in memory of Professor Igor Lukashuk ‘Politics of Sanctions in International Relations: Between Rule of Law and Coercion’

The leading Russian and foreign international lawyers will convene an online-conference ‘Politics of Sanctions in International Relations: Between Rule of Law and Coercion’to commemorate an outstanding Soviet and Russian legal scholar I.I. Lukashuk, who could have celebrated his 95th anniversary this year.

The main topic is set to be the law of international responsibility – one of the branches of International law, profoundly contemplated by Prof. Lukashuk. The participants will discuss various sanction regimes (imposed by both international organizations and states) and concentrate their attention on the problems of the interrelation between International and domestic law, as well as between law and politics, to assess, when sanctions can be qualified as lawful.

The conference will be held in Russian and English with simultaneous translation.
