Located at a crossroads of global, regional, and national interests, contemporary international law affects almost all spheres of society. The School of International Law keeps pace with significant international events and legal adjudication in order to provide hands-on education that prepares future lawyers and legal scholars for the demands of the current legal landscape. The School is at once a ‘think tank’ that provides expert analysis and a producer of top legal experts and lawyers in international law.

The HSE team has taken part in the competition that included undergraduate students Roman Abrashin, Matvey Vladimirov and Nisso Khudoeva. The students successfully passed all the qualifying rounds, defeated the MGIMO team in the semifinals and advanced to the final of the international competition.
The case submitted to the competition this year was an interstate dispute between two fictional states. The case was devoted to the international armed conflict between the Democratic Republic of Askitenna and the Kingdom of Ristern and touched upon such issues as an armed attack, violation of the international treaty on State borders, denial of access to humanitarian relief, as well as missile strikes on the humanitarian corridor and occupied territories and cyber interference in the control system of multiple launch rocket systems.
At the final round, the team represented the prosecution – the Republic of Askitenna accused the Kingdom of Ristern of committing an act of aggression, genocide, as well as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The team showed excellent knowledge of the norms of general international law, international humanitarian law and international criminal law. As a result, the team was awarded the 2nd place and our students were awarded for the «Best Memorial for the Prosecution».
We congratulate the team on this success and wish them further victories in international law competitions!
