We invite you to participate in the Scholarly Colloquium "Intellectual Property Law in the 21st Century".

The UNESCO Chair on Copyright, Neighboring, Cultural and Information Rights, HSE University in cooperation with Rospatent and the Faculty of Law of the National Research University Higher School of Economics provide you with a unique opportunity to listen to a specially prepared report fby one of the world's most authoritative experts in the field of intellectual property law - Professor of the University of Illinois, Doctor of Law Peter B. Maggs. You will be able to ask him questions and have a discussion with him and other participants of the colloquium.

Professor Peter B. Maggs has entitled his report as “The Future of the Intellectual Property Law” The working languages of the colloquium are Russian and English.

About the author:
Peter Maggs is Research Professor of Law at the University of Illinois, where he has taught Copyright Law, Patent Law, and Trademark Law, and is Associate Fellow of the UNESCO Chair at the HSE University in Moscow. He also has taught at George Washington University, Moscow State University, and the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, the University of Trento in Italy, and the University of Malaya in Malaysia. After graduation from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he studied civil law at Leningrad State University with Professor O.S. Ioffe. Professor Maggs is a member of the American Law Institute, and was on one of the drafting committees for the Restatement of Unfair Competition. He is also an associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books and articles on intellectual property law, Soviet law, and Russian law. Together with Alexey Zhiltsov he is coauthor of the most widely used English translation of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, which translation was used by the Russian Federation in its negotiations to join the World Trade Organization.
Professor Maggs is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and has been active as an expert and consultant in international litigation including intellectual property matters such as Soiuzmultfilm’s copyrights, the Stolichnaya and Smirnov vodka trademarks, and TNK-BP’s trade secrets. He has served as arbitrator in proceedings before the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
