Congratulations on the victory
A team of Faculty of Law students Anastasia Parkhomenko, Aleksandr Lashch and Maria Pakhomova, supported by coaches prof. Daria Boklan and Yury Rovnov, placed first in the second European regional round of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO Law, which took place from 10 to 14 March 2021 online, bringing together contestants from all over Europe.
Anastasia Parkhomenko was pronounced the Best Oralist of the final round.
The John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition is a simulated hearing under the rules of the WTO dispute settlement system. This year’s moot case invites participants to explore the WTO-compatibility of a fictional front-of-pack nutrition labelling scheme. States have been adopting different versions of such schemes (including so-called ‘traffic-light’ labelling) in a bid to contain and reverse the proliferation of non-communicable diseases which are often associated with energy-dense diets and obesity. The complainant in the dispute brings claims under the WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement), the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and the Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA).
The HSE University congratulates the team and wishes them success in the Final Oral Round, which will take place between June and July 2021.
